![]() Lecturer Research Location: The Hospital for Sick Children/Research Institute Primary Research Area: Brain & Neuroscience Secondary Research Area: Cardiovascular As a devoted electron microscopist, I am interested in the utilization of advanced EM methodologies in the study of disease. These include analytical energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry, cryomicroscopy, immunogold labelling, morphometry and electron tomography. As a consequence I have been able to identify changes in diseases I have been studying that might not have been detected using conventional approaches. ![]() MD Professor Research Location: Toronto General Hospital/Research Institute (UHN) Primary Research Area: Cancer Secondary Research Area: Genetics, Genomics & Proteomics Dr. Aldape is a neuropathologist with a research interest in primary brain tumors. He has experience with identification of biomarkers in gliomas, including microarray studies. He has identified a mesenchymal subgroup of glioma, which may be related to microenvironmental factors. His work characterizes glioma subtypes as well as identifies clinically relevant molecular alterations in these tumors. Phone: 416-634-8728 Email: ken.aldape@uhn.ca |

![]() MD, FRCPC Professor Research Location: The Hospital for Sick Children/Research Institute Primary Research Area: Molecular & Cell Biology Secondary Research Area: Cancer We study how processes important in normal development are recapitulated in repair processes or dysregulated in pathologic processes involving the musculoskeletal system. We are unraveling the role of signaling pathways such as Wnt and hedgehog, in stem cells, during embryonic development, in tissue repair and regeneration, as well as in neoplasia. ![]() MD, MSc, PhD Assistant Professor Research Location: Sunnybrook Health Science Centre/Research Institute Primary Research Area: Molecular & Cell Biology Secondary Research Area: Human Development & Aging Our lab focuses on skin stem cells and using them for skin regeneration studies. We employ in vitro and in vivo approaches to enlighten the process of wound healing post injury, identify and track the fate of cell(s) that contribute to the healing. In collaboration with burn surgeon-scientists and chemical engineering scientists, we aim to create a “skin substitute” that can be used for burn patients.
