Dr. Hubert Tsui completed his BSc (Hons), MD, PhD and residency at the University of Toronto, clinically subspecializing in Hematological Pathology with a basic science doctorate in the field of Immunology.

He began his career as a staff hematopathologist at the University Health Network in 2015 and thereafter joined Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 2018 to lead an acute leukemia referral / Complex Malignant Hematology (CMH) program. He is presently the Division Head of Hematological Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics, Precision Diagnostics and Therapeutics Program and an Associate Scientist, Biological Sciences Platform, Sunnybrook Research Institute. Dr. Tsui is also the medical-scientific lead of the Sunnybrook Biobank and specifically the co-principal investigator of the Sunnybrook Hematology Biobank for acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).

Other leadership roles include the Ontario representative for the Hematological Pathology Specialty Committee at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Research Director of the University of Toronto Hematological Pathology Residency Training Committee.

Dr. Tsui has co-authored >40 peer-reviewed manuscripts including practically relevant Canadian Consensus Guidelines on FLT3 testing in Acute Leukemia. He is an alumnus of the prestigious American Society of Hematology / European Hematology Association Translational Research Training in Hematology program and the invited plenary speaker at the 2023 Canadian Association of Pathology Annual Meeting where he discussed the latest challenges with integrating genomic information into clinical hematological practice.

Dr. Tsui’s translational research interest is in stromal biomarkers of fibrotic myeloproliferative neoplasms for which he has been funded by OICR and the Canadian MPN Research Foundation.

He holds the rank of Assistant Professor with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and Department of Immunology, University of Toronto.
