Welcome Letter from Anna Plotkin, Director, Continuing Professional Development

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to our home on the Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology website! This is where we’ll be posting our discussions, activities, and other information. I am grateful to introduce this new resource as the Continuous Professional Development Director at University of Toronto’s LMP Department.

The world of Laboratory Medicine is changing, and we are trying to stay well-educated about what is happening in the field. But it is difficult to stay abreast due to the countless resources available, time constraints, financial limitations, and general inability to keep up with the non-stop explosion of new information.

With the understanding that our members have different learning needs, CPD’s goal is to support knowledge transfer via an evidence-based approach according to those individual needs. This is a huge task that cannot be accomplished without your participation. In becoming active and directing the CPD office toward information and learning formats most relevant and appropriate for you, you will ensure this program’s success.

Additionally, CPD seeks to promote excellence in healthcare by facilitating life-long learning and providing relevant activities close to your working place. We began by creating social group communities of interest—breast and gynecological pathology—where day-to-day cases are discussed during friendly interactions. And now we will also have a summary of the highlights of the literature for general pathologists which our very own experts are excited to be posting on this site.

We are also planning a number of new programs and are excited for your participation.

If you would like to offer your opinion or participate in any of the existing activities, please let us know.

Stay tuned, and we look forward to your feedback at anna.plotkin@thp.ca.

Sincerely,

Anna Plotkin, MD, FRCPC
